Consolidated Bank Ghana LTD. (CBG) has honoured the UN Global Compact Network Ghana's invitation to participate in several events held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
CBG was represented by Madam Florence Adei Ohene, Deputy Managing Director for Retail Banking, Operations & Support Services, whose portfolio includes Sustainable Financing & Impact and Diaspora Business.
Held under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all,” the session brought together global leaders and stakeholders to advance discussions on sustainable finance, ocean conservation, climate action, corporate sustainability and supply chain resilience.
Madam Ohene shared CBG’s perspective during a panel discussion titled “Catalysts of Change—Redefining Influence in Africa and the Caribbean’s Development Future.” She highlighted three areas in which banks can drive progress: making projects bankable to secure partnerships for sustainable and responsible banking, mobilizing and structuring capital, and strengthening collaboration between financial institutions across Africa and the Caribbean.
Madam Ohene also underscored the importance of blended finance in addressing the scale, tenor and risk requirements of major development projects. She explained how concessional funding, guarantees and other risk-sharing instruments can lower financing costs and provide the assurance needed to attract commercial lenders.
She further called for greater mobilization of domestic and diaspora capital through credible investment channels, including thematic bonds, diaspora investment products and professionally managed funds linked to clearly defined projects and measurable outcomes.
She emphasized that practical knowledge exchange would be equally valuable to the alliance; Caribbean institutions offer experience in climate adaptation, disaster resilience and financing smaller island economies, while African banks bring expertise in infrastructure finance, support for fast-growing businesses and operations across large, diverse markets.
CBG’s participation at UNGA 81 reinforces its commitment to acting as a catalyst for change by helping to originate stronger projects, structure sustainable transactions and connect diverse pools of capital. Through these efforts, the Bank continues to contribute to inclusive growth and a more resilient financial ecosystem across Africa and the Caribbean through valued collaborations and support from organizations like the UN Global Compact Network Ghana.
