Every child deserves the best life can give, however, a lot of children have been hard-hit by life and therefore are denied some provisions of life which then ends them up in shelter homes and orphanages. In the wake of the COVID-19 and as part of the bank’s effort to reach-out to many communities in need of support, just like it was done earlier in April during the Easter festive period where CBG donated some food items to some select deprived communities, it is exciting to state that Potter’s Village is the first orphanage to benefit from CBG’s humanitarian support.
For the past 20 years, Potter’s Village has taken in abandoned children, street children as well as children of mentally retarded parents in no position to raise young ones. The orphanage does this by providing the children with shelter, education and good parental guidance from as low as 2 months to 18 years.
The Orphanage currently caters to 124 children of which 104 are in-house on the shelter site and the 20 spread in secondary schools, Universities, or married and working in the country. With about 5 staff and 3 camera crew, the CBG team was set to visit in the afternoon of June 05, 2020 on their new property which is still under construction.
Items presented to the home were big bags of rice, bottles of oil, some boxes of biscuits, amongst others, after which the team shared happy moments with these children who thankfully sang their home-anthem as well as welcome song as a wave of love and appreciation of our visit.
Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu, CEO and Founder of the Potter’s Village Orphanage was overwhelmed with the love gesture during this period of social distancing. The Founder of the Orphanage, affectionately called ‘Maama’ by the children, joyfully recounted her story some twenty years ago and further expressed joy at how much support has come over the years especially in the new facility they currently occupy adjacent the Forest Hotel in Dodowa. She bemoaned however of the challenge faced in raising these children with all their needs; despite that, she expressed her unflinching love for every one of these children. In her words, “I chose to do this as I love everyone of these children even to the youngest child Isaac, I cannot trade Isaac for any amount in this world”.
As a financial institution with a humanitarian touch conveniently touted in our tagline ‘We Stand With You’, it is gratifying to see people happy and satisfied with the aid offered to them. It is even more rewarding to see the impact the aid can make in their lives. Like one of the caretakers, Aunty Akua said,” We are happy you came, we are happy you drove through town to visit, not worried about contracting the virus, all for the love you have for us. God bless CBG!” While observing the social distancing protocols, the team managed to share some happy moments with the children by taking photos and singing with them.
